Type of grapes
Nowadays 3 type of grape are used. The most adapted ones are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunierand Chardonnay. If others are allowed, they however represent only 0.3% of the production (Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris Arbanne…).
Pinot Noir covers 39% of the vineyard. It can be found in the Reims Moutain and in Côte des Bar. The wines made with this grape havefruity aromas and re structures. It gives body and strength to the wine.
The Pinot Meunier covers 33% of the vineyard, mainly in the Marne Valley. It gives limbered and fruity wines which can evolve a bit quicker with time. It also brings roundness.
The Chardonnay covers 28% of the vineyard. It is the grape variety of the Côte des Blancs. The characteristics of these wines are delicate aromas, floral, citrus fruit and minerals notes. With a slow evolution this grape is ideal to age the wine.
